Proper Swaddling Technique

Swaddling your baby can provide comfort and security, but it’s essential to get it right. Some frequently asked questions we get are below.

Baby swaddles generally fit into two categories:

  • Traditional swaddle blankets: These are thin blankets that are large enough to wrap up a baby. They can be used for other things for post-swaddling, like burp cloths, regular blankets and covers while they feed.
  • Two-in-one swaddles: Referring to swaddle sacks where there are two uses. Ideally, for new parents, this makes swaddling a bit easier to keep baby’s safe and snug. These often come with features like velcro, zippers buttons, or snaps.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has research studies on when you should stop swaddling your baby as soon as they show any signs of trying to roll over. For more details about their press release, you can find it on their website.

Generally when babies are about two months of age onward, but be sure to follow your child cues. Parents move from a typical swaddle to a sleep sack once the swaddling days are over. Keep in mind that swaddles are snug fit while a sleep sack is loose and helps more free movement.

Traditional muslin swaddles are basically wrapping your baby up similar to a burrito. There are other alternatives that take much less effort. There are the more non traditional swaddles like ones with zippers, velcro and buttons. Visit our store for the simple way to wrap your baby without any of the traditional folding.
